The definition of X-Style does not really describe the event. Other sections of the rulebook start with a short definition that explains the event.

What about replacing the current text in 9A.1 with this:

X-Style is an event for riders to show off their highest level and most favorite skills. Riders mix together freestyle and flatland skills with creativity and ingenuity. The competitors are judged solely on the skills that they complete. Presentation and falls do not count like in other Freestyle competitions.

In X-Style, starting groups of ten or fewer riders compete against each other, and the top three riders advance to the next round. In prelims, riders are given a minute and a half to show off their best skills. In the final round, the top riders compete against each other with a two minute run. Judges will be selected from other starting groups or from non-competing volunteers.

I like this.

I'd maybe change "most favorite" with "most difficult".

Comment

Dani - I'll make that change.

Anybody else have a comment? If definition is ok, I'll make a proposal for review and vote.

Comment

"highest level and most difficult" is a bit redundant now. I would also not reference "presentation" as that word is no longer in the freestyle book, even if people still would understand its meaning.

Also, the descriptions of the run lengths are not entirely accurate as it depends on the number of rounds. Maybe something like "Riders show off their best skills in an individual run that is between 1 and 2 minutes in length." That's not perfect, but maybe you could work with that as a start?

Comment

I wouldn't mention anything about flatland in that definition as long as X-Style counts as freestyle competition. Maybe you could do something like this:

X-Style is a freestyle event for riders to show off their most difficult skills. Riders can show their own style with creativity and ingenuity. The competitors are judged solely on the skills that they complete. Performance and falls do not count like in other freestyle competitions.

In X-Style, starting groups of ten or fewer riders compete against each other, and the top three riders advance to the next round. Riders show off their best skills in an individual run that is between 1 and 2 minutes in length based on the round. Judges will be selected from other starting groups or from non-competing volunteers.

Here is my version:

Our original idea when we created X-Style was to have all judges also being riders (this would remove the selection of qualified judges part in the other discussion). I would like to enforce this stronger as a lot of people did not do their judging bit at the last Unicon. Maybe riders that do not judge could be disqualified.

Maybe we should wait with the definition till all the other rules are fix. I really like the idea of a new and good definition but it seems like it won't already work.

Marie, we haven't decided yet if judges will only be riders from other starting groups or also non competing volunteers. Also X-Style is a freestyle event. If you want to change that you can always start a new discussion if we should make a new category just for X-Style. Freestyle isn't just the routines in the rulebook it's split into "Freestyle: Artistic", "Freestyle: Standard Skill" and "Freestyle: X-Style". The same way Flatland belongs to the category "Urban".

I agree with Lisa here – the definition is something we can agree on when all the other rules have been settled
