Relay (Track) - moving the Relay rules from 3 Track: Other to 2 Track: Racing

For the relays the same rules apply as for the other Track Racing disciplines regarding the start, the use of lanes and the finishing. In my opinion it would make more sense to put the rules for the relays in chapter 2 Track: Racing, because here you can find also all the other rules being used.

I am preparing a number of discussions, one of which is about the split between Track Racing and Track Other.

With the current flood of new discussions by you and some others, I'm not making much progress with it. :-p
It will take some more days at least.

Klaas, what about the discussions you've mentioned? I think the time that remains in the current Ruelbook Committee is limited and I would like to discuss the assignment of the relay races to the Track: Racing chapter if necessary in this discussion. But if you've already prepared something, I think we'd better wait for it.

Comment

I'm sorry but I am very busy, especially this week. I know time is running out for completing the Rulebook and I do what I can, but it's limited.

The "preparation" I mentioned hasn't progressed more than a list of issues I want to start discussions on. Some are from the WR Committee and you took the lead there already - thank you. For the subject of this discussion, I think it's better to go ahead as you intended.

Comment

How do the other committee members see a shift of the relay rules into chapter 2 of the rulebook? Any comments?

Comment

I agree.

Comment

I agree. Please make a proposal.

Comment

The reason for moving the rules is stated in the first post. The proposal reassuringly says (in Body) that the rule is just moved, and there are no changes.

Note however, that this move implies that Relay changes from an optional event to a required event. While I welcome this change, I believe it must not go unnoticed. Agreeing with the proposal means agreeing to making Relay (usually 4x100m or 4x400m) a required event at every Unicon.

Comment

See the proposal in the main committee. It is currently suggested to be a required event at Unicon in that proposal.

Comment

I have revised the proposal to include the relay in the listing at 2A.1 Definition.

Track racing covers events done on an athletic track. These rules apply to the following standard races: 800m, 400m, 100m, One-Foot, Wheel Walk, Realy and IUF Slalom. Additional “Track and Field” events can be found in Track: Other Chapter.

Comment

The way the proposal is now, relay must be held but it may be any number of riders, and any distance.

I think we need to require 4x100m, while other relay variations are optional. They could include 4x400m (which is named "usual" but I think it is not very usual), but it might also be 8 x 200 m, to name just a possibility. Such exotic variations are fine with me, but 4x100m is what people would expect to be present.

Comment

Klaas, I think you're referring to the sentence in 2B.6 Event Flow: "These races should be part of every Unicon." I think we should just delete this sentence completely, because there are other places in the rulebook where it is prescribed which disciplines have to be offered at a Unicon. It only leads to confusion if the same thing is mentioned in several different places and can only lead to ambiguities.

Comment

That's fine with me, as long as we prescribe specifically 4x100m and not just "Relay".

I am losing track with all the discussions and proposals about "neighbouring" issues/aspects, especially because of the time pressure (deadline 22 May).
