14B.8.5 Insults: Result? (Closed for comments)

"A player must not insult the Referee or other players."

Even though this is under the '14B.8 Fouls' section, there is no mention whether the referee can do something about this. Of course, it is down to the referee what action should be taken; however, someone could easily bend these rules as all other headings in this section either a result or an action.

I propose we make this clear, similar to '14B.8.2 Right Of Way' - "it is up to the Referee to make a decision."

14B.6 Penalties

In every instance of a violation of the rules the Referee must penalize the offending team, unless the Referee decides not to interrupt the game (advantage).

Because 14.B.8.5 comes under the "Fouls" heading I believe that means that means that the referee should penalise the offending team as per the instruction of rule 14B.6 when a foul/penalty is committed.

The SUB and SIB rules above insults don't necessarily have a sentence saying that it is up to the referee to make a decision. Right of way does but it's actually saying any contact NOT explicitly listed here may still be penalised at the refs discretion.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this

I agree. Since it's under fouls it's pretty easy for the ref to penalize it, starting with a free shot and ending with 2- and 5-minute penalties.

What maybe is less clear is what happens if the insults or protests come from team supporters outside the field. In Denmark we have some passionate supporters so keeping ones head cool in the face of them is important. But that may be a different discussion.

Summary

14B.6 Penalties In every instance of a violation of the rules the Referee must penalize the offending team, unless the Referee decides not to interrupt the game (advantage)

Anything coming under the fouls section must penalised by the referee (or advantage played)

Comment

"...the referee must should penalise the offending team or player immediately ..."this will probably come closer to what we understand or interpret. This would also give the referee a chance to penalize later.

Comment

That wording is taken directly from current sentence for penalties. It says they must penalise a team/player UNLESS they play advantage.

I think to make it clear that a player may be penalised after advantage is played comes into our discussion in another group. And should be something along the lines of

14B.6 Penalties

In every instance of a violation of the rules the Referee must penalize the offending team or play the advantage. In the event that an advantage was not gained, the referee should enforce the penalty from the initial point of infringement. Additionally at the referees discretion, players may be penalised resulting in a send off after advantage was played.

Comment

I think this has been concluded at the penalise after advantage is being discussed in another group
